Cool Heater B/D and New Air Box Complete!

Well, It was down to the wire with the Fan Ratio drive belt delema..But thanks to Don at CT I was up and running to Monterey.. The list of my latest modifications includes the following.

1. Back dating Heater System.
2. Fresh Polished 11 blade fan with new Ratio
3. Electroless Bright nickel plating of Fan Pulley and Out Pulley half
4. Fresh powder coating of Fan Housing, Housing Strap, New FFUR air intake cover, Valve Covers, and Back dated heater parts.

All in all I'm pleased, The bummer was when I was showing my son the nice Red PORSCHE decal that was to go accross the fan strap and it got ripped out of my hand, actually half off it. Yes the motor was running and it sucked the decal up! So I had remove the fan to fish out 50 little pieces of vinyl and paper now that sucked! Literally I don't know how to post before and after so I'll just show the results.
So here is the final results.

Thanks Slider, I fabbed it in my Garrage, Pelican Member TerryBPP and myself wondered if it were posible to replicate the Ruff cover..
We new from the begining that it would be just the cover and not the complete air box, So designed it and sent the design drawings to Terry, The plan was he was going to make one out fiber glass and I made mine from sheet steel. It was more work than I thought it would be. I realized that I didn't have enough critical spacial dimensions so it became a design to fit project. But now I have a clean set of documentation for future builds.

Yes.. But sort of waiting for more responses..If I build a handful they will be to expensive.. I'm going to be looking at having a fab house quote them sometime soon..
One thing to keep in mind.. The adaptation of the box requires back dating your heater system..

Sounds good, you will have to let us know. My heater system was backdated this winter during the rebuild so it would be ready to go.

Targa Dude. Very nice looking. What year is your car? Have you noticed any performance/sound changes with the new cover? Thanks, poorsha.

Thanks Poorsha, My car is a 77 Carrera slighty modified..
Yes, performance has improved and the notation has changed.
I still have to reset the C/o mixture..I'm doing that this week..
and I'm sure there should be even more noticable differences.

Wow! That's a seriously marketable product - you can sell a ton of those. The stock airbox covers on the CIS engines are the ugliest thing in there. Put me at the top of the list. Wow!

Well, no way are they going to be stainless..and if it's to Bling.. sorry.. I actually like it now that it's done. When Terry and I started this project it was to see if could be done..and looks like it can. So who knows.. maybe I'll make a few more.. and intime I'll concider injection molding as a posibility. Don't know just yet

...Just kidding

Seriously, have you noticed a change in the sound of the engine? With all that extra open intake area, my guess is that it would sound a little "meaner".

Absolutely changed the sound.. recieved some complements on the sound. I really didn't get a chance to show anyone my motor on the drive but a couple people did ask about the notation. which is really a result of a couple of aspects. Some may have to do with the way I built the Engine and with No thermal reactors, Modified stock muffler to a dual out and now improved air flow. It definately does not sound Stock.
Cowtown, As for the the Oil filter.. thats not an oil filter, it's an oil filter housing with a High flow blower. that aids the C/C under it. nothing to scientific.

You would want to thermoform those.
injection molding would be WAY to expensive, and wouldn't gain you anything.

Yes.. I stand corrected thanks Island.. Thermal forming is most definately the prefered method. I always have appreciated your input..

Jorge (Targa Dude) do you know if your design allows for clearance of the A/C condenser, on the inside of the deck lid? (I noticed you don't have A/C )

I'm thinking that might be something to check. . .for those thinking of knocking off a copy.
