Best Wheels and tires
I have an 83 944. I am thinking about a wheel and tire package. What is the best size to get? What will fit? Post as many pictures of examples as possiable.
Thank You |

17s or 18s look the best, but 18s are not recommended by porsche, they could hurt your suspension. that said, i've got 18" SSR gt3's and i like em just fine. check my avater, if you want a picture of the whole car just holler.
good luck ian

is there anyone who is going to advocate for 15 in wheels or 16in wheels?? How about some pictures
How big can one go withtires in the front? rear? are there real preformance advantages to bigger rims and tires??

16x7 and 16x8 Fuchs would be cool...slap some 225/50 and 245/45 rubber on them and you'll be stylin'.

i will advocate 15" wheels. some of the boys on here with lower profile tires can probably verify or discount this but with the high sidewall on the stock tires do a lot to absorb bumbs and make the ride comfortable for daily driving. i would personally like to find a set of 15 or 16 inch rims with a 9 or 10 inch width (depending on what fits. i beleive 9.5 is the widest you can go in ther rear)

This combo worked out really well on my '86 N/A. The car came with 16 x 8 and 16 x 9 Fuchs. I didnt care for the 8's up front. I located a set of 16 x 7 (951 model, thanks Jae) Fuchs for the front. I am really pleased with the look and performance of this combo...

85944na- Thanks man. Right now it's getting a smoothed and compressed front bumper, turbo rear valance, and painted center caps. After that, yellow matched calipers and a fresh coat of paint for summer. She should be lookin even better in a lil while.
bulachip- go to this link .. thats the proper tirerack page in case you missed something. here's a more to-the-side pic: ![]() later ian edit>> thanks blackfoot. i agree, i wish i had six-spokes. they're too cool.

Blackfoot- The 968 looks great. Do I stand alone when I like stock rims on the car, you have three choices: Fuchs (must be color matched if Alpine white), Cookie cutters, and the old and pretty phone dials. What do you currently have on the '83 and how are all the mechanicals. It wouldn't be wise to spend 1-3k on wheels and then have it break down and be undriveable.

She has 15in Fuch wheels with 225's in the back and 215 up front. I recently bought the car and it has 117k on it. So far it drives very well, it sounds like a happy car at idle so I am confedent to put money into asthetcits but realize that I may be being foolish.

thanks for the kind words guys. my tires are michelin pilot sport 225/45/18 all around, i believe.. they grip like glue. they came from tirerack also.
and yeah the ride sadly does need some paint, alot of touchups actually, so much that its cheaper to just paint it. it's been backed into, keyed, and the PO spilled hydraulic fluid on it. all preventable **** but it happens. peace ian
