Issues with wiring harness recall?
Last night I dropped my baby off at the local dealer (the good one - in Arlington) for the wiring harness recall. I just know I'm gonna get a phone call with the "hey, as long as we're in there" and the subsequent $$ cha-ching sound. But my question is what sort of electrical gremlins have other 993 guys had pop up after the wiring harness was replaced? I've had my car for 3 wks. now and everything is flawless. I'm scared to death of electrical gremlins (especially expensive a/c issues) appearing after the dealer is done with it. What can I expect and will the dealer fix it?

Why do we need to continually redirect all 993 questions to rennlist? Are we building a 964/993 community here or is this serving as a pointer to Rennlist?
As for the wiring issues most dealers are now fully experienced with the engine harness procedure. Sometimes they recommend replacing some secondary air bypass valve and some tubing that may be rusted under the Varioram. I think it's a few hundred bucks extra. Ask to take a look at whatever they want to do in there. |

Yes, the service guy did mention the secondary air bypass valve and said it would be about $290 to replace if it needed it while they were in there and to tack on another two hours if I brought it back to them later. They called a little while ago and said it was all done and everything was fine. We'll see tomorrow.

I haven't had any electrical problems so far. Had it done earlier this year. One MAJOR problem I did have is that the dealer somehow forgot to tighten everything on the intake system when putting it back on after installing the harness and a nut eventually got sucked into the engine.
They rebuilt it free of cost but it was a terrible waste of time.

John- You raise a valid point, which I think is worth discussing. As we know, the Rennlist boards for the 964 and the 993 are more active and, therefore, have more info. When a someone posts that he needs help with his 964 or 993, and I don't know the answer and I believe the answer can be found on Rennlist, I feel obligated to let him know that. After all, we're here to help others (and learn and have fun, I might add). With all due respect, what alternative is there? Also, what do you (and others) suggest should be done to increase activity on this board? Hopefully, this will generate productive dialog. Jon '93 C2 |
