Extreme Makeover, Carrera bumper
I recently removed the bumperettes and trim off my brother donated bumpers and rockers to make them into a rubberless version. Hope you like the show:

Sorry about the brief description. I had about 3 paragraphs written with the images and the board kicked it back to me and deleted everything I wrote.
I can't take credit for the paint and finish, only the idea. They mounted on perfectly and offer much more protection then a fiberglass one would, my chief reason for staying with the aluminum ones. I know the accordian is still there, but wouldn't you miss having that wrinked piece of rubber trapping dust all the time? If you can do the welding and finishing, it truely is a no cost upgrade. I went with lighting bolts in the licence plate and routed them through a grommet under the plate. I used the existing wiring to hook them up. Simple!

I kinda was doing the same thing but I wanted to inlay the plate. Yours turned out beautiful. Here is the beginning of my crappy attempt. Also I like the fact the you stayed with the aluminum bumper (safer)

Not bad! Now get Euro bumper brackets and dump those heavy-ass US bumper shocks.
FYI - always copy the content of large posts before submitting. This has saved me many times!

I looked briefly for some euro ones. When I come accross some, I will change them out. The bumper is so simple to change now but the muffler will be in the way soon. I found a picture of the illumination:

Very nice work. Now, what about the bellows, is there any way of getting rid of the bellows?

Anything you do to get rid of the bellows kind of defeats the purpose for what they are there for: to crumple and not cause damage to any other sheetmetal. I suppose a simple piece of metal to replace it or perhaps lengthening the rocker end to meet with the bumper. If your going to get into this, I think going to a C2 bumper would be the answer.

Banned but not out, yet..

Dramatic improvement! And the fact you did it yourself makes it that much more sweet!

Very clean look!
I also like the way you turned the transmission around for better weight distribution!

The rubber helped saved my azz after a rear ending a little while back... I think the rubber is also one of the odd little quirks that define the Carrera's. Its character.
Not having them on there, looks fantastic though... its just my personal preference to have them. |

Well done! Looks much better without them IMO.

You've got to have the rubber on the bumper! The reason that there are two of them is that one is your seat and the other is the drink holder.

Nice Job. What did you to to hide the bolts to the bumper shocks? I am going to miss the tool holding aspect of the rubber bumpers when I remove mine.

I had them weld a plate on with reversed studs and drilled out the bumper shocks.

I think we need more pictures. I would like to see a side shot of the whole car. Are there any plans to do something similar to the front?
