RoW cars in North America?

As a RoW 911 owner, I'd like to throw some questions out there for other RoW owners with cars in North America.
Where did your RoW car come from? How did you get it to where you live? (air or sea)
Mine was shipped to Canada from Japan on a barge. I like the few things that are diferent on a RoW 911 that make it stand out from the North American models. That's just me though.

Thanks!

Mine came from the factory to Florida back in 81. I have no idea how it got here but it did.

It stayed in Florida until the second owner brought it to Michigan. I bought it from the 3rd owner, who was a friend of the 2nd owner.

Mine came to Florida as well. No idea of how, but I "think" it came from Italy. My car was "Grey Marketed" by AMG in Orange County, Fl.

Just curious, does yours, being a JDM import, have the funky completely upholstered rear seat area?

My 69 may be a Row car. It has a kph speedo (in 69 we were still in mph). As to how it got here no idea. I should ask the PO who he bought it from and see where that leeds.

Absolutely the back seat of my car looks like that. What does JDM stand for?
You're in Eddy? Been there lots!
I'd love to see pics of your car. What year is it?

Thanks!

ROW- "Rest of World"
WUR- "Warm up regulator" like on a car with CIS fuel injection

ROW = Rest of the World, as opposed to U.S. Market
WUR = Warm-Up Regulator, an integral part to the success of a CIS (continuous injection system).

Mine is a German car. I don't really know much more about it than what the previous owner told me. Supposedly it was imported to the US in 86 with 21,000km. I wish I could learn more about it.

The federalization was not poorly done, but not great. I have reversed most of the electrical that was done as a result of the federalization. It appears to have been purchased as a race ready car because it is as stripped as you could order them in 81. No sunroof, no AC, houndstooth fabric seats, 16" wheels (as opposed to the standard 15" that would come stock), factory short shifter. Most of the euro bits are still on it. Rear fog light, h4 headlights, side marker turn signals, small rear bumperettes, etc. I eventually want to replace the US style rear turn signals for the original orange ones.

lol, sound as if there needs to be a "ultimate Acronym" thread.

When I started working for an auto MFG acronyms where like speaking different language.

I think many of the European cars came with upholstery on the seats as opposed to leather. The same thing goes for the sunroof. I'm not positive about the AC, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was often not specified. No idea about the short shifter, though.

That pic is from an 87. Its not my car, but one I seriously considered purchasing. It has low miles and in nice condition. Its black and looks just like any other RoW car on the outside and in. Other than the back seat. Pretty car, but it sits too high. Looks like its ready for the Paris-Dakar.

So, does anyone know anything about the completely upholstered back seat area of the Japanese cars? As I understand it, this is a JDM only thing. I wonder why they would specify this and not RHD as those are readily available for other right hook markets.

My 74 was imported to Florida as well, then made it's way to NY.

Not to steer this discussion off course, but for those of you concerned, both of these threads are pretty good for the acronyms.

Don't think the term ROW was used for early cars.. they were just referred to as Euro and had the speedo etc in kph. would have had any of the descriptive stuff in German, H1 or H4 lights and Euro tail and front marker lights.

The ROW term really began to be used with later cars from 78 on I believe.

If the JDM cars have completely upholstered back seats, what in the world do the back seats of North American 911's look like? Mine is a "JDM" car, and has leather throughout, so I just assumed all post mid 80's 911's had leather throughout.

You mean to tell me that North American cars with front leather seats would have upholstered rear seats, or all seats were upholstered?
I only thought very early 911's had upholstery. Never seen a post mid 80's 911 with upholstery.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sweet ride! Looks exactly like mine, but red. I have the Carrera sport option on mine too.
Also, I love Carreras without sunroofs. They look like a more solid car.
Only possible diffrerence between mine and yours, might be your rear reflector. Does yours have the big black "PORSCHE" or the smaller clear letters? Hard to tell in the picture.
