With my 944S reaching the 120,000 mile mark I am thinking of replacing the suspension bushings. The problem is I don't see much on this topic on the bulletin board or archives.
Anyone know were I can get some reading material on this? Thanks for your responses. |

Drews-
Ive got the same car with almost identical miles, and am going to pull my control arms this weekend. My balljoints are worn, so they're going to European Dynamic in TX. While I'm at it, I was going to replace any bushings in the area that look even remotely worn. I'll let you know how it goes and what to look out for/expect. Should be pretty straightforward, but that what I thought when I spent almost two hours trying to remove a control arm bushing from my Truimph TR6 last month ![]() By the way - where is the best/cheapest place to get bushings from? (My local dealer is hardly ever stocked well). |

I replaced my front bushings about 2 months ago. they are a ***** to get the old ones off of the control arms, and the new ones on. Getting the front one off wasn't too bad, but to get the new one in you really need an arbor press. But you can do it with a big vise and a couple of large sockets. Use some type of lubricant on them, it'll help a little. (at the very least, you need a big vise, hammer blows just get soaked up by the rubber, and are useless) Now the rear busings, i had to cut them off of both sides with a die grinder. to get the new ones on, i had to use a sledgehammer. Even if you had an arbor press, i don't think you could use it on the rear bushings. By the way, mine is an '84, with the steel control arms. If you have the aluminum ones, they may be entirely different. Mike |

Liquid soap is a great lubricant for rubber. I used to use it when I would install windshield seals. Washes right up and you can use as much as you want.

I've had good luck with Motion Dynamics in Austin TX, they carry the Energy line of bushings, keep me posted on the progress of the front suspension, that will be the next project after I tackle the rear.

Motion Dynamics in Austin TX have always given me good results, they carry the Energy line of bushings.
Mike can you give me little more detail on the rear, how did you get access to the bushings, I'm just starting out the research part of my project so any help is appreciated. Panzer, keep me posted on the front |
