2004 Round-Up news
The momentum for this years big event is building fast!
The driving routes for both days are just about finalized. The host hotel is booking up quickly, with the great rates they've been offering. And this year, our famous and fun apres-drive party will have a terrific location, right at the hotel. I'm proud to mention our prize giveaways will be the best ever, thanks to some very generous sponsors.... Pelican Parts; Rennsport Systems; SCAN Automotive; Weissach Performance and the Canada-West Region of the PCA. Now, just a note regarding the hotel.... The host venue is the new & fabulous Sun Peaks Delta Hotel. Round-Up organizers have arranged a special room rate of $109 (Cdn) for attendees. Please be advised that these rooms will soon be fully booked. So, don't be left out; make your reservations asap. To qualify for our special rate, just follow the instructions on the Round-Up website: http://members.shaw.ca/zielke/roundup.html And finally, I've received many e-mails asking "how to register for the Round-Up". Please note: There is *no* registration! You just show up on the morning of the event, at the designated starting point, sign the manditory PCA liability waiver, collect your prize drawing tickets....and get ready for some fun (no fees at all). The complete package of driving route instructions and maps, will be ready to dowload from the website, on or before July 1st. Thanks, and see you at the 3rd Annual Rainforest Round-Up Aug 7-8. I'm counting the days!
For us Seattle folks, what's the plan for driving up to B.C.??? Also, Dana and I are planning to take a few days off the following week and head out to Lake Louise/Banff area. If anyone is interested in joining let me know.

Paul - Now that you've attended a Skills day, I'm scared to have you behind me!!! You were scary fast before....
Look forward to seeing you again. I may also join the North Cascades ride later this month.

Alf has graciously offered to lead the pack. Where we meet is still to be determined.
Ah, Rick and I will be bringing up the rear....

Judging by all the Seattle area folks I have on the Round-Up e-mail list,
I think you guys may have quite a convoy!

Round-Up pre-drive
This past weekend, I pre-drove the route for the '04 Rainforest Round-Up. I believe this years drive will be enjoyed by everyone
for it's mixture of breathtaking scenery, as well as curvey asphalt. Day 2, especially, is full of twisty surprises! Dropped by our host venue (Sun Peaks Resort) to have a look, along with a very nice lunch. A beautiful facility if there ever was one! Also, I spoke to the Manager of Mantles Bar....our group will have the *entire* place to ourselves on Saturday night. Attached, please find a little teaser....a shot of one of the many mountain switchbacks '04 Round-Up drivers will enjoy. (If the picture looks "smokey", check out the shots of the nearby forest fire across the canyon.) ![]() The Driving Instructions and Maps for the event will be online in about a week. See y'all on Aug 7-8 http://members.shaw.ca/zielke/roundup.html

Shaa wingg, I can't wait, I am stoked. looks beautiful. What's up with the fires? Are they controlled burns getting prepared for our fire breathing machines?
Thanks for your efforts Doug, I'm sure they will be greatly appreciated. I am personally looking forward to meeting you, as I was disappointed I missed you at the vintage races last month.

Paul,
Sadly, the fires are not a "controlled burn". They are just outside the town of Lillooet. The town is on evacuation notice, and the fire is out of control. Round-Up '02 drove through that part of the canyon, and we had a fire that year too. I imagine by the time we roll through there in Aug, it will still be smoldering. When I took those pictures, the radio station said it was 101 degrees that afternoon!
