550 Spyder Replica $11,500 !!!!!!

This car is located in Phoenix. I looked at it for myself, but it needs a bit more tweaking than I'm comfortable with. I think it has huge potential for the money.

Overall the fit and finish was fair to good, but definitely not great. Some panels needed adjustment, but looked like they had the potential to fit straight with a little work. The owner's daughter painted the car herself and it looks like it could use buffing and/or block sanding. There were a few chips here and there, but from a few feet the whole car looked great.

The engine was cold, but started right up and sounded great. Shift mechanism could use work. Tires, though narrow, seemed to rub when going around 90 degree turns - the ride height was set low and this may be solved by raising the front end a bit (it has a Karmann Ghia front suspension). I only drove it around his neighborhood, but the engine seemed very touqey. At one point I had trouble with it bucking at steady RPM in first gear - never did figure out what was going on there - it cleared up after a minute. It was made worse by the unreasonably stiff throttle return spring.

Engine is built VW Type I estimated to be putting out at least 105 HP. The car and engine only have 400 miles. I told him about Pelican and offered to post the car here. He agreed. E-mail or PM me for the owner's contact info.

I would ditch the video game steering wheel, but other than that could be a sweet ride!

Yep, that steering wheel would be the first thing to change. I thought the gauges were OK... they have a retro look to them.
