Fixing Speedo/Buying Parts
My speedo no longer keeps track of how many miles I've done.
There was an article in last months 911&Porsche world on an easy fix for this but as usual its not going to be that simple as the speedo they used was obviously older and mechanical. So on taking mine apart I see that I have stripped the orange cog in the picture below, is it possible to buy and replace just this part? ![]() |

With a little searching I have foundthese guys.
So I'll give them a ring in the morning, seems an easy repair, apart from the needle. |

The small cog was delivered across the pond within 5 days of ordering and took no more than 30 mins to fit.
The face has to come off to remove the other two cogs and the force needed to remove the needle was ridiculous, I was resigned to having to have it sent away when it shot off cleanly with great force and bounced off the ceiling, the trick to not breaking them seems to be to use force on evenly across the base. I reinstalled it with a very small amount of adhesive. I didnt really notice untill it was fixed that the speedo needle was bouncing before (around +/-3 mph) but now its rock solid and smooth. All in all a nice easy job. ![]() |
