Red face Nerds Gone Wild - A Modern CGT Tragedy

- Techno Weenie starts software company - gets big
- TW sells said company to even bigger company for millions
- Porsche Dealer sells TW a CGT with no driver training
- TW thinks he'll try some super-cool driving in the City
- TW high centers CGT during urban sprint

Can you say curb rash? Yo Al Reed ! Can you whack these back into shape?

The dealer should have sold him one of those Paris-Dakar 959's. Apparently this guy was ticketed for going 150MPH on a local highway in traffic a couple of months ago. Money AND brains are not always present.

Ouch! Service manager at Porsche dealership says car may have to go back to the factory to be repaired. With any luck they will keep it and refer him to Hummer........

Hmm, if you have enough spondulis to buy a Carrera GT, what the hell are you doing going 150? Why would you expose your assets like that? You blow through a light and kill someone, here comes a big fat tort judgment!

You guys don't understand, do you? People like TechnoWeenie are nothing more than organ donors for the rest of us. Half of us could not afford to buy parts without these guys. I, for one, hope TechnoWeenie goes out and buys himself a nice, shiny red 1989 964 just so I can pick up some cheap used heater control knobs after he parks said 964 t!ts up on the freeway doing 140mph.

Now look back at that pic of the CGT and ponder...which one of us will be driving that beauty when TechnoWeenie has to part it out on eBay? Muhahahahaaaaa...

Come to me...come to me...my preciousssss....a few more dings and she will be mine...mine I say...

Cool

When the 930 first came out, Chuck Stoddard no less, told us at a tech clinic, that ownership didn't take brains just a thick wallet. He expected many 930's would be crashed, rear first!

Well these pics are illustrative of his very words some 28 yrs ago.

I love it. Walt Whitman said that, "Common sense is genius in overalls."

When I was at Car and Driver, when the 930 first came out, I remember one of the very first ones in the U.S. traveling, as I remember, 19 miles from the delivering dealer before the new owner looped it on wet leaves and totaled it.

not to defend Dick's driving habits - however he was kind enough to bring it to the 997 intro. and put it in the showroom for all to ogle. He seemed decent enough. I know if I had a CGT(and 23 million in cash) I would NEVER go over the speed limit.BTW this intersection is notoriously dangerous I would not be surprised if the incident was caused by someone or something else.

Yeah, like the engineers at Porsche... It's all their fault!

first rule of crashing, if someone else caused it, make sure they are involved to prove they were there.

I once had a friend swerve to avoid hitting a car that pulled out from behind a slower truck cutting my buddy off. My buddy ended up pretty much like the CGT, but the offending car got away, so the cops charged my buddy with careless driving, and told him had he hit the offending car, it most likely would have been considered not his fault.

Note I said invovled not necessarily taken out by you but clipped atleast

I know I'm probably in the minority, but to my eye this CGT is butt-ugly. The wheels are ugly, and the color is ugly. I agree with another post on a different thread that likened the CGT to a "porsche el camino". I know it's fast and expensive, but I'd much rather have a new 997 turbo. Am I alone?

Jim, I was in the same situation - some a-hole kid pulled out in front of me (from a driveway, and just stopped in the lane). Instead of T-boning him, I pulled to the left and hit the brakes, raking some damage down the passenger side of my car from his LICENSE PLATE FRAME (yes, i was that close to scot-free). My insurance told me that they wouldn't replace my flat-spotted tires, as they don't cover "accident avoidance", just accidents. I asked what the sense in that was, as new tires were $800 mounted, and the totaled car (had I not swerved) would have been $25,000. They basically shrugged and said that If I had hit him, they would cover it.

At least he was nice enough to bring the car to MCL's launch party for the 997 a few months ago!! He also was registered for, but missed sadly, a DE with PDC at mission in October. I wonder if that would have helped. The car was impounded for a couple of days after "the ticket" that Jorian mentions!
