You need a Peake reset device or the like. I think there is a way to do it with a paper clip or maybe a paper-clip and a resistor. the E36 can be done this way I know, but I wouldn't do it. Buy a Peake or contact your local BMWCCA because they surely have a reset device to loan.

depends...how old is it?

1. hold the left button in on the dash
2. turn the key to position 1 accessory
3. you'll see the odo say reset in the upper left hand corner hold the button until it blinks
4. let go
5. push the same button again immediately. that should do it.

make sure you don't turn too far, as the second position unlocks a different set of menus.

Amazing, I've been told repeatedly that there was not an OBC reset feature by several sources. I tried your method on my 2001 330 and it seems that it will work, although I didn't reset my interval.

It seems you need to keep the button held down until "Oil Service" appears then I suppose an immediate release and press of the button would reset it. I'd like to know if it works for you.

Thanks atlporsche!

On an E46, 1999 to 6/2000, you must use a reset tool. On an E46 6/2000 and later, place ignition in off position, press and hold trip odometer button, turn ignition to accessory position, keep button pressed until reset appears, press button again reset flashes, press button again while flashing. New interval will be shown.

On round plug *2000 and earlier take a piece of wire and jumper it between the negative terminal and the 7 pin. Hold it for 15 seconds to reset oil, 30 seconds for all inspection.

Cool bit of info. I plan on changing my oil a lot more often than the service intervals indicate, and I was dreading having to get a reset tool - good to know I won't need one for my 2K3 325i. Does anyone know if this method works on the same year Z4?
