Still dieseling, will it ever stop?
I am lost. I have not had my 85.5 944 for very long and have had idling problems, and dieseling problems. The idle problem was an easy fix, the ICV wasn't working. I replaced that and the car idles perfectly. I also noticed that my spark plug wires were arching across each other and to the motor. Needless to say, I replaced the wires. Well the car still diesels. I have asked friends what would cause this and I have gotten two responses. Coolant is low, or the octane is too low. The coolant is perfect and I have used both 91 and 87 octane gas. Well, it still diesels. The car always runs very cool, even in traffic. The needle is always below the half way mark. I can't think of anything else that could still be causing the car to diesel. Does anyone have any suggestions, I will try anything.
Could the car be running to rich? Or, could it still be getting power to the spark plugs even after I turn the key off?

Would that cause it to diesel? Is there a way that I can test the injector to see if they are leaking?

Take the fuel rail off (four bolts) with the injectors attached. Lay it on some rags. Disconnect the black wire at the coil. Crank the engine a bit and check the ends of the injectors.
Be sure to put some light grease on the injector o-rings before you put the rail back into place.

What should the end of the injectors look like when I do this?

Am I disconnecting the black wire so the plugs don't get any power?

Ok this is what happened. I removed the fuel rail with injectors and put a paper towel under each injector. I disconnected the center cable to the distributor and disconnected the plug wires at the plugs. Then I cranked the engine over. Each injector squirted gas out over the paper towel. So from what you are saying the paper towel should stay dry. Well I guess that would be my problem then. Is there a way to clean the injector or do I have to buy new ones?
Thanks for the help socal.

You should expect that each injector squirts. What you are looking for is one or more injectors leaking after you crank the engine over. Did any?
Removing the black wire from term #15 cuts the power to the coil keeping it from sparking. Removing the center HV cable doesn't stop the coil from sparking. You could have had an engine compartment fire. You can also disconnect the reference sensor at the back of the engine. Do you know where that is?

Where is the black wire located? Is that term #15 from the fuse box, I don't understand? I also don't know where the reference sensor is?

There is an updated turn signal relay to stop dieseling. The old one had a voltage feedback which allowed the engine to continue running for a while. Part number is 1HO 953 227

The black wire is located on the coil which is what the center distributor cable connects to. There in the thich spark plug like wire in the center of the coil, then theres a green ne, anda black one. The black one needs disconneted to stop the coil from sparking.

Do you think it could be from the timing? I think the PO might have had the timing adjusted to make the car pass smog. I haven't really looked into it but could that cause the dieseling?

Timing is not adjustable. Fuel mixture is. Needs some more diagnostic time to see what is actually happening.
