101 projects seems to be dealing with an E36. is process the same in an E30? Seems the exhaust could be disconnected under car and engine mounts loosened so engine could come up inside bay to make room. I know it would still be tight but could this work? cant get car on lift so its floor jacks only this time.

Replacing the oil pan gasket in an E36 should be very similar to the E30.

For the E30, you need to remove all the sump pan bolts and lower the pan as much as you can (it will foul on the oil pump) then with a 13mm (I think of could be 10mm) spanner, remove the 3 oil pump bolts and allow the oil pump to drop into the oil pan. Then you can remove the whole lot and clean it up for the new gasket.
