Course design propblem. We always have our safety guy walk the course looking for possible problems like that before any cars go out.

I watched a mid 90's Corvette driver go throught the finish lights at an autocross and hit the gas instead of the brake. She plowed over a curb and just missed the people in the timing canapy. Scary stuff.

It never makes sense to have someone get used to an unfamiliar type of car at full speed. I would still have to question the driver because a Porsche doesn't have a real confusing pedal layout like a Lotus Espirit or and Audi 5000. I kinda wonder if he was used to driving automatics...
And the course design issue is obvious... Sure you can keep driving forever if you want to but you would hope that they would find the brake after a while.

I'am thinking that he must have been used to driving an auto. If he was trying to brake with his right foot, it would be pretty hard to get it all the way over to the clutch. He was probably trying to left foot brake, so either he is an idiot and is trying to shave hundredth's in an autocross, or he just isn't competant with a manual. either way, not his brightest moment.

Actually, the driver's Corvette is an automatic that he autocrosses, so he likely does a lot of left foot braking.
I am sure he mistaked the clutch for the brake pedal in the heat of the battle.

Its always Corvettes.
I was at my 1st PCA AX a couple of months ago and had a novice course working with me. A vette left the line and I started to tell the novice to never turn your back on a Corvette when the Vette lost control and went so far off course she was in the woods going backwards towards a tree. How she missed the tree is beyond me, pure luck. My 1st lesson for the novice was displayed out in front of us.

The California T shirt oracle, "caca happens" sure nailed it on this one. I recognize Portland International Raceway as the autocross site. Anybody know who owns what's left of the GT3?

I'd have to say it's totalled.
Probably looking at close to $200,000 worth of bondo between all those cars. An amazing thing for sure.... Glad I was out of the country during all that!

I've been watching this since I'm heavily involved in our local autocross club. The course was set up by all guidlines of the SCCA and was deemed "safe". No I don't think that putting the parking lot at the end of the finnish was smart, but it was by the guidelines. But to me it seems there was some sort of brainfade by the driver above and beyond the normal caca happens.

What's so different about the pedal layout of the Lotus Esprit or Audi 5000? I've never driven either, but every single manual transmission car as clutch, brake, gas, left to right.
