Chips n dip

I got my chipped DME back in the mail from Mr. Wilk a couple of days ago. I gave it a whirl, drove the hell out of it, and have this to report.

I love it! I got the dual chip type thing and I flicked the lever back and forth (yer not supposed to, btw) and could tell the difference between the stock and the power prom settings. I flicked it on power prom, and I have to say, it kicks ass! While I haven't tried the top end speed, I know it gets 0 - 100mph faster and it seems...more assertive getting there. I haven't even tried driving it with it on the stock setting, cuz it's just too dam much fun with it on the powerprom set. While it's not a turbo, and I do realize nothing will ever bring my car to turbo specs, It gave my '84 a swift kick in the arse. Conclude report

Woa that's cool. So you can just flip a switch and be back to stock?? That's nice for us Cali people. I have a spare DME and now I may give FR a call.

Can it be done to the 951? I am thinking a nice little divorced switch right next to my boost controller, and afterburner switch would be really nice!

Scott, Chipping a 951 is very noticable! It made my X 89 951, very impressive! Frank: Yep, you can, results are less impressive w/na though...Some say no gain without increasing to a higher fuel octane, I am open minded and am researching it too.

Wilk's Motronic site

Chipping a 85.5 or later is easier than the pre 85 models. I had to send my DME in and Wilk installed a daughter board with the two chips and a switch. The later cars come with EPROM slots, so no soldering is necessary.

I just want a switch, you know like chip on and chip off. That sort of thing. I guess it would not be possible on the later DME, I did not think about the dughter board part.
