2012 Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI piston repl. questions

So I have an Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI with 104k miles that has the high oil consumption issue (currently 800 miles per quart burn rate). I discovered the issue too late to get it covered by Audi of America. I'm now faced with the decision of selling the vehicle at a discount (disclosing the issue) or replacing the pistons with the new upgraded pistons/rings myself. The parts alone are a pretty significant investment, so I'd hate to do this job and then have some other major failure occur within the next 10-20k miles. I have the erWin manuals and am "reasonably confident" that I can do the job, renting and buying some tools where needed. Some questions: Sell or Fix: - with the timing chain/tensioner and piston replacement jobs done, is an expectation for an engine lifespan of 150k miles reasonable? Engine Removal: - I believe the engine can be removed with the bumper and carrier in place, but suspect that things would be much easier with more access via setting the carrier to the service position or removing both the bumper and carrier. Any thoughts from others based on their experience? Camshaft Removal: - I'm a little nervous about the exhaust cam and unsure of some of the erWin procedures. - Are the special camshaft spacers (T40191) recommended/required in order to re-install the cam? - The procedure calls for removing all the cam actuators, installing special camshaft pins (T40196) and rotating the crankshaft twice, then removing the pins; what is the purpose of doing this and is it required/recommended? And one more general question, I see many references around "replace bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them"; I don't understand what they're talking about here. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. | ||
