Hey, so, I made the mistake of letting a family member borrow my manual Golf. Safe to say, the clutch is hanging on by a thread. It's slipping majorly when I try to accelerate and is having a hard time engaging. By the way, this is happening in all gears, that's how I know 100% it's the clutch.
Enough back story, I am quite new to the grease monkey world, but I'm dead set on fixing this clutch myself. The height of my experience with "fixing" cars, is getting to the timing belt of a 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo (not changing it). Anyways, I found some clutch options both OEM and "Performance". Also, I do intend on upgrading the car further, if my parents let me keep it. From what I've researched thus far, the major difference between the two are torque capacity, heat and friction endurance (due to different materials), weight, and cost. For those who have experience with this, could you please give some advice, common mistakes that are made/the consequences if those arent righted before the car is put together, and is it worth fixing by oneself? Thank you, All help is appreciated B.T.W. The car's name is Blueberry Jr. |
