audi a4 thoughts

Im an active member in the porsche forums, but am looking for another car. Was looking at getting into an audi, or a VW. Mainly looking at A4, maybe A6 or GTI/ Jetta, The compacts. Not looking to spend over 1500, but for the right car comes the right price. Can do work on the 944 series, so I believe i can learn quick about Audi/ VW mechanics. saw this ad 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L
Whats your guys thoughts? Locked in N/1st gear? Wouldn't it be one or the other?
Fairly new Cam tower gasket, brakes n rotors, plugs/ wires, clutch and pressure plate. Is the throw out bearing inside on of them? 944 it is a separatepeice, P. plate, clutch disk, and T.O. bearing (3 piece clutch).
What are some of the fixes for the stuck gear? Don't know much about the A4. Any help would be awesome.

A4 2.8 is a great move. Can't go wrong if you are handy. I had a 3.0 that I loved.

Cool cool. What are your thoughts about the stuck gear? Could it really be as "simple" as reconnecting/adjusting the shifter? Or do you think he did something to the tranny after the clutch job? How would you go about diagnosing that, and onto fixing it? Would I be essentially doing the clutch all over agin?

Start by reconnect/ adjusting the shifter. That should be tough. If that doesn't work I suspect whoever did you clutch screwed it up. Try readjusting the clutch cable. I have a feeling when he pulled the tranny out to do the clutch. He didn't renegade it properly.

Was the cable replaced or the clutch pressure plate/disc throwout bearing?

He did not mention that he replaced the cable. Is that a piece that should have been replaced while he was in there? He said that the he recently replaced the clutch and pressure plate.
