How do I put tailgate inside cover in?

I just repaired my 2001 Passat tailgate opening problem. The switch on the handle was corroded, so the microswitch didn't operate reliably. Cleaned it up, put some foam under it so it pops out better, and now release works fine. Just a question, though. There is a black plastic cover that was in there, and I don't remember how it was installed, and can't figure it out. Does anyone know how to put this back in? It doesn't seem to really be necessary, so I just reassembled the tailgate without it.

Hooray! I got it. I finally figured it out and successfully installed the cover. I have photos of it in place, if anyone is interested. The long slot goes over the tailgate seam, and the tabs go up. Typical vw to make a complicated part for a simple job. All it seems to do is support two connectors. A couple of zip-ties would have done the same thing. It looks to me that this cover is not really required.
