VW considering a comeback for the Thing!

You read that right, Volkswagen is seriously considering bringing back the Thing to their line-up. The original Thing was actually based on a German military vehicle called Kübelwagen, which was sold in the U.S. for a few years in the 1970's. Its main purpose was to be used as a great off-road vehicle. If the Thing was brought back it would replace the Beetle. This has not been confirmed yet.

Herbert Diess told Car and Driver that he believes an SUV built on battery-powered platform that will be used for the Microbus and several new VW models in the coming years may fit the current market better than yet another new Beetle. It would be easy to do, too, as the modular chassis can accommodate a variety of vehicle types and provide front-, rear-, or all-wheel-drive options.
