Porsche Crest let's put SOME kind of Porsche engine into my vanagon synchro

Initially I thought 3.2 911 engine. Yeah, that'll cost about $15K all said and done, I imagine. Just like buying/rebuilding any 911 motor.

So then I thought, well what about Boxster engines? There're not nearly as desirable or expensive as 911 engines (of any year). Because they're not race engines. Vanagons don't "race," so who cares? Does anyone know of anyone else who's put a Boxster engine in a vanagon?

I guess I should get measurements, for mounts, clearance, etc. This is supposed to be my bulletproof Baja vehicle.

(don't anyone tell me to get a Subaru conversion - HORRIBLE vibe for a VW, pls)

Cheers
~J

Well .... my 3.3 4-cam 24-valve 240hp SVX Syncro would beg to differ. The only bad vibes I felt were when dealing with trucks and 75mph traffic heading up I-80 with the stock 2.1. Now I hold position in the fast lane, no problems.

Oh ... here's a link to a very clean SVX Syncro install, complete with photos.

As much as I love the sound of a 911 engine, cost is a factor when doing an engine swap into a Vanagon. Take a look at what I've done here:

here's a pic of a a watercooled Porsche engine in a water cooled Vanagon...
