Weird things can happen. I'm not going to judge based solely on the news story.
A few years ago I had been driving for about 8 hours straight when I began to feel lightheaded. I had my little chihuahua with me in a dog crate. I got off the highway, got a motel room, and went to sleep on the bed. I woke up about an hour later with my dog still in her crate on the bed next to me.
I have no memory whatsoever of anything that happened between the time I started feeling lightheaded and the time I woke up. I don't know what I did or how I got checked into a room.
I went out to the van and found my car keys lying on the ground and the driver's door wide open. Good thing I stopped in a good neighborhood.
The doctor's conclusion was that after sitting so long a blood clot formed in my leg and went to my brain. He told me never to drive more than 2 hours without getting out of the car and walking around for a few minutes.
