Code reader
I have a 1984 318i. I think I am getting old the reason I said is I can't seem to locate my code reader or re-set tool. Can someone direct me where I might be able get another. I use it just to re-set the system after an oil change.

The reason why you can't find it is because the tool doesn't exist! They only had the reset tool for those years. The early Motronic systems didn't kick out trouble codes - and they are a pain in the ass to work on because of it...

My bad Wayne. You are absolutely correct. A re-set tool is what I meant. I got mine from a buddy in San Diego who was working at a local dealer at the time I transfered several times since then and with the multiple pack up and un packing I miss place the tool he gave me. It there a another way to re-set all those lights that tells me I am due for oil change. My dash looks like an "equalizer" with all the different lights on.

Yes, you just need to connect a few pins on the connector - there's a tech article on the Internet somewhere on this (not on our site unfortunately), that shows you how to do this in about 10 seconds...

Okay, what I just did probably broke every guideline in this forum by cut and pasting that link that gave me the answer I was looking for. A link on discussion on how to re-set oil change light for both type of "jack". I guess I just wanted to share my findings and showing how cheap I am being by not wanting to spend 50 dollars to buy one of those re-set tool even though I will be needing one here soon for my 2003 330ci after the factory warrenty expire... |
You can reset the oil light on your 330 without a tool. Search the E46 forum and if you dont find it let me know.
