I have a 1984 318i, I swapped a 1985 318i motor in, before and after the swap this problem was going on. The car idles high 1500 rpm in park and won't kick down to low idle 800-100 until I shift into gear. Everything was working great, then this happen...did the swap and it still is being weird. I've changed the ICV, compression on new motor is great, no hissing/vacuum leak. What's going on?

Most likely a faulty idle control ecu. Very common.
