I bought a Sony multimedia amp for my office. It is hooked to some Boston Acoustic CR7 speakers, and a center speaker. I never turn it up much, but for TV shows or movies it sounds great. In our living room we have a full blown surround sound, and a lot bigger amp, and speakers. My wife keeps the volume very low, and the surround sound effects are lost.
Only if she is out of town can I watch a movie at the "proper" sound level. Highly educational movies like the Avengers movies or Terminator are just so much better on loud! Nothing like the movie theater loud, but enough to make me feel the explosions and stuff getting blowed up really good. Hobbs and Shaw is such a sweet romantic comedy, that is enhanced with one or two explosions.
I think back to the TVs of my youth, B&W TV 320x480 or so and one tiny speaker built in to the TV, and three channels at best. No wonder I played outside a lot.
