The crimped end is now cut off. My initial plan was to cut both ends at a 60 degree angle and bend the pipes so they fit together end to end then weld the pipes together. I am having trouble bending the pipes even when they are heated up red hot. Plan B is to just cut the pipes near both ends and weld in a new straight pipe in its place. The part that looks as if I was munching, I used my drill with a 1/2" bit and drill a bunch of holes and then pulled the top off. Since I am going to remove the whole oval part I didn't see a need to make it look nice. Plus it would of taken to long to uses my cut off wheel. The outside skin of the muffler was cut with a cut off wheel this way it fits nicely back in place once it is welded back together. After I am done there shouldn't be any way to tell it was taken apart.
I am guessing there should be a 5 - 10 HP increase after the mod is done. For testing I was going to do 3rd gear pulls from 2000 rpm up to redline taking the average of 2 runs in opposite dirrections. I also wanted to record the acceleration times for each 1000 rpm increase to see where in the RPM band the power increases.
