As everyone said, you have to decide how loud is loud.
My buddy's 911 has all straight gears. Its loud enough that he had just removed his stereo since he can't hear it anyway.
I changed some of my gears. One of them is not even a straight cut but has less helix angle than stock. That gear whines quite loud. It was ok only because its the 3rd gear, not the top gear.
