I'm getting ready to replace the ventilation blower.

I've been reading up in the workshop manual (87-16), but that says I should take the hood off first.
I'd prefer not to if not really required.
I can remember seeing a write-up somewhere about it, but can't find it again.

Any experiences on replacing without removing the hood?
