I just got a new long block and had all the seals replaced. The shop put in 5w-30 for a few hundred mile break in period. I however had a DE the day after I got it. Even taking it fairly easy the 5w-30 oil was just evaporating in the system! I opened the fill lid and it just steamed out! Ended up using a whole quart of oil for one event (usually use at most a 1/4 quart if any). You should run at least 10w-40 (synthetic will also handle more heat without breaking down). You may want 20w-50 if its a warm time of the year and you are driving hard (autocross or track), just give your car a few minutes to warm up the thicker oil before street driving.
