I once put a lower profile oil filter in place of the larger Fram HP1 on my 912 race car because the HP1 was blocking access to one of the plugs. When I had CE do the full flow work on the 3rd piece, Walt said to only run Fram HP1 filters...ah, what does he know? On the first start, after rebuilding the motor and painting the engine compartment and tin, the new smaller filter exploded...blew the orange part right off the base. Oil was everywhere. Luckily, I had a deep sump installed so I reaped the benefit of even more oil spewing everywhere. 912's put out a respectable amount of oil pressure on cold starts.

I feel your pain, but reading about it still made me smile. As a friend of mine would say, the hose was just icing on the crap cake.
