Anybody use Hemmings to sell a Porsche?
Hey collective all,
I plan to list my 1966 Mustang Fastback in Hemmings, as I've had good success with them in the past with a Jag and with a Ducati......But has anybody ever used Hemmings to sell a Porsche? Curious monkeys want to know. Mark |
BaT

BaT is auctioning off at scary low prices right now for 930's, with lots of cars failing to meet even low reserves.
Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems that their format is set-up in such a way, that you must submit and commit to an auction, before you even find out if they will allow your set "reserve". If they deny your "reserve", they won't allow you to use their site again. Furthermore, if your car fails to sell, then they won't allow you to relist it either. Am I understanding their site wrong???? Mark |
From what I've seen, 930s sell for a premium on BaT versus other places and you can actually see what they sell for versus those mythical prices on Hemmings and other websites... I don't think you're correct on the "committing before you set the reserve and then being banned if you disagree".

BaT has become the new standard for auctions. It’s skewing the market valuations IMHO. Ask yourself this. Would you want to limited buying pool who will value your car based on photos/videos alone or would you prefer to have your car seen/driven by potential buyers? The former is best for hiding flaws and the later is better for a prime example. That’s just how I see it.

Well there is my point, "willing to leave money on the table".
You are NOT allowed to just set any "reserve" and run with it. BaT decides if your "reserve" is acceptable to THEM! They will only run an auction if THEY agree on your "reserve". I have been told by a business owner/seller that repeatedly uses BaT, that BaT allows more flexibility on "reserves" with businesses, and greatly reduces the "reserves" allowed for Joe Blow. The whole thing seems skewed and unfair....maybe I'm just listening too much to the naysayers? Mark |

I've bought on BaT, never sold... I'm not chasing the last dollar on either side of my car transactions so to me it's a great place to find interesting cars and some good entertainment while doing it... Buy what you like and drive what you buy and the rest will take care of itself. The reality is (and I was skeptical it would work) they've created a great product that has disrupted the status quo and that's great IMO.

Why speculate on the low reserve Mark. Just submit your car to them and see what they say.
