question on intake

So I have my engine out and am doing some clean up..
My first question is what are our intakes made of and what (if ) they are painted ? anodized ? My 79 engine appears to not had a coating on it , while my 86 is black like it was anodized ?

The intake manifold is made of magnesium, bare, no paint or anodizing. Many have painted them and I suppose you could Cerakote it. I personally like the bare finish with a light oil coating, like Gibbs oil or CorrosionX.

Ok so I guess magnesium just turns black over time . Gonna try Gibbs oil

The black finish, assuming it's factory is called pickling, a chemical process to deter corrosion.

I had mine clear powder coated.
They bead blasted it clean and then cleared it. It looks like new aluminum all the time.
This is now after a year.

Powdercoat in any color you like, I like white.
