Long neck I/C and deceleration valve
EDITED:
I was curious if anyone had an opinion on whether the decel valve will do what it is supposed to do on my 79 turbo motor with CIS with aftermarket long neck I/C. I plan to use BOV on a 965 intake elbow and connect this BOV to my intercooler and TB. I'm wondering whether the BOV reacts quick enough to do th ed job of the decel valve? Seems it may not even function properly bc the boost Recirculation or shuttle valve has been deleted for the aftermarket intercooler. I have no problem keeping it but thought I'd get opinions. I'm not talking about the AAR which is an electric device, I'm discussing the simple vacuum device which is the decel valve on my 79 930. It seems to be the same valve as the AAV. I understand what both devices do, just wondering whether the decel valve will even function properly wo the boost Recirculation manifold in place. I Thank you, Matt

I have a 79 with CIS and long neck and removed it.
I believe its only there to open on deceleration to lien out the mixture and eliminate the exhaust pops and gurgles. Car sounds better with it off. My car actually had two of them. One to raise idle when AC was on and one for the deceleration. I took it all off with the shuttle valve when installing the long neck. And I may remove the IAC because it causes a high idle intermittently. The only thing you must have is the boost recirculation valve.

More information on my turbo S-T: @the_r_institute EDIT: I was mistaken, I'm leaving the AAV in place. I'm wondering whether with BOV on my 965 intake elbow running to both I/C and throttle body I'll need the decel valve. I don't mind keeping it I'm just wondering if it will function properly connected to the intake manifold without the magnesium boost Recirculation manifold in place. My concern is the BOV wont react quickly enough btwn shifts. Last edited by Fixer; 12-19-2020 at 06:05 AM.. |
