Starter wiring question

1986 911 turbo
I can’t remember where the two small wires connect to the starter.
One is yellow and one is yellow with green stripes.

The Y one provides power to solenoid and the YG one is an output wire. So my guess is the Y goes on the terminal below your red wire.
Wish I could get under my car and check - but not on the hoist right now.
if you put 12V on the terminal below the red wire and you hear the solenoid click in, that is correct.

Not sure what Dominick has posted there. But if you disconnect the red wire (hot wire to battery) and touch it on the terminal below the solenoid should pull in with a thunk and the starter won't fire - because you disconnected it.

I enlarged Dominik's picture and it looks like the yellow with green goes on the left side terminal.
I'm guessing that the solenoid has it's own power - that's why it needs two wires.
It might not make a difference which way they connect.
The engine is out right now, so I can't do much testing.

Yep - you can still test.
12 V across the terminal below the starter one - and see if it clunks.
Cant' hurt anything - one terminal feeds power to the solenoid, (the starter is live all the time - except it has no circuit til the solenoid pulls in). The other terminal is an output (12V) and likely the CSV.
Find which one drives the solenoid and the Y wire goes to that.
The solenoid doesn't have its own power. It gets it from the Y wire. The starter is hot all the time. When you turn the key you are not powering the starter - you are powering the solenoid - via the Y wire. From Dominiks pic it looks like the Y/Bl wire is on the output side. So your Y wire needs to go where I indicated. But you can check that.
