Is this normal

I am in the process of putting my 76 row turbo motor back together .. Is this normal ? The pulley is on z1 notice the adjustment is almost all the way at the end seeing it’s a clock wise distributor it doesn't leave much for adjusting ..

when i got the motor it was also really close to the end of the adjustment i was told it ran great until the broken stud issues . .. . . fist turbo motor but tinkered with regular356 and 911 no turbos all my life

Thanks in advance
Regards Ned

From your first post you bought the motor with it not running.

One idea is maybe that distributor is the wrong one?

IIRC there were several different distributors on these engines.

Have you looked up the numbers on the distributor to cross reference them with your engine in the PET, to see if it's the right one?

you should be able to clock it a tooth and not be that far off in the other direction - agreed, check distributor part#

i was also worried i may have had the wrong distributor also ... I finally removed everything to get enough space to try resetting the distributor .. looks like the first time i did it, i went over two teeth by accident .. i was able to get it one tooth everything lined up perfectly . got it running set the a timing and advance dead on now looking into setting the mixture im sure i will be asking more questions when i get some time ..
Thanks much appreciated

Yeah those distributors are pretty rare and a few years ago unavailable. Even parts were hard to get they might have replaced it with something close but not the same as original.
