Slant nose conversion: sell or convert back?
 

Hello, I’ve had my slant nose conversion almost a year and have made improvements on the vehicle. I find myself really drooling over the original front end look, what I idolized as a kid.
I have done a little research and see that converting the slant nose back isn’t as big a job as I originally thought and I’m sure I could do it. However, I’d like to get a general consensus on whether or not it would be better to sell it and look for what I’m wanting. One pro of keeping the car and converting would be to not have to go through the stress and hassle of selling my car and buying the next. Plus, I think it would be a good project for me and my boys, ages 12 and 14 should I decide to convert it back. If it was a M505, there would be no question. I’d sell it. But it being a conversion, it’s really nothing special, considering. The slant conversion was done really well, all steel, and has the round headlights. The car is solid. 3.3l engine on a 1977 Turbo chassis, upgraded turbo, wastegate, and new intercooler with shuttle valve delete.I’m working on the AC system now. Also I installed a short shifter, and had a AFR gauge installed. New coco mats.
I’d love to hear some thoughts on this.

More pertinent info is that I don’t know who did the conversion but it was well done. Same with the engine. No paperwork on when that was done. My mechanic has given it a clean bill of health, but these facts tend to make me want to keep it because I know a potential buyer would want to know more history on the thing.

It’s a nice car though and I do love it.

Love the slants but I can sure see the value in taking this one back to original. From a strictly financial point of view it depends on what you have in the car now and what a non numbers matching early 930 is worth. Doing the work yourself is a huge bonus, without that it's typically money ahead to sell and get what you want.

Given how easy it should be to convert by just buying fenders/lights and related hardware, I'd say it would be worth it to convert back. I'm personally a fan of the standard fenders, from a pure design point of view. Although I have to admit the slant nose was tops on my list in my teenager days!

So bottom line I guess is how much it would cost for you to source and have a pair of fenders painted, and whatever you spend on lights with all of the options out there. At least you don't have to change the front valance or fill-in the side vents, or buy standard turbo side rockers. Either way it's a sweet ride.

I agree, I think it would be easy to place some new fenders and install the lights. Of course I haven’t gotten in there to see what else might be missing. Can’t be much though.
Of course that project might prompt me to go ahead and get the paint job and color I want. Guess it’s gonna always be like that…

Well... if you go THAT deep, color-change and all; then it would just have to have its own build thread. I'd call it Project Slippery Slope Nose...:D

I'd keep it as is but as you said it's an easy swap to stock front fenders/headlights. At least your car does not have boxed rockers and chopped rear fenders which is a plus.

convert it back to original if that's what you prefer. I have a great shop I use in San Diego if you are local

Just keep it as is and drive it. If you change it you will have to change your sig from 911TurboSlant to ?

I'm partial to the slants especially of it's a good conversion. just keep it and enjoy it.

I like both the slant and stock looks equally, and if it were mine I’d keep it as is (decent painting being $$$$). Either way, when you go to sell it, some buyers will freak out with faux hysteria over non original paint.

That looks super clean and well done. I'd leave it as is.

I'm also partial to slants. It looks beautiful. If you like it, keep it as such, that's what I would do.

Convert!!! I used to love the slant nose but they have not aged well. Now I look at them and think Crockett and Tubbs, leisure suits and disco balls. While our bug eyes have aged like fine wine.

i love the slants.

Here is my thinking. My car (a slant) is over 40 years old. I look around the parking lot and see nothing I want better. It looks modern well beyond its age.
