Tires for 930 in 2022? No more RE11?

Hi,

I've been really unhappy in the past with some tires, make car awful to drive. Something about soft sidewalls the car loses its crisp feel. As far as I can tell its totally unpredictable whether I like a tire based on manufacturer's verbage. Definitely want summer tires as car will never see snow.

For past decade I've been extremely pleased with the RE11 handling and especially grip in the rain. I get about 7-8k miles of street driving from them, which is fine given how few miles the car sees. But looks like RE11 is no longer available.

RE71R was supposed to be new hotness, worse wear but no matter because it is not available either.

I had some kumho's once that I loved, around 2008? But when they wore I tried their new upgrade of the same model and returned them because they were 'terrible'.

Is there a consensus 'good' tire for 930 for 2022? Anything good coming down the pipe?

I need regular stock size: 205/55/16, 225/50/16.

I’ve been happy with Nitto NT555. Street cruising 930.

Just picked up a set of Pirelli's and have been very happy with them. Low noise (of course they are still new), good feedback, decent sidewall that rolls progressively.

The nitto 555 looks like what I want but doesn't seem to be available in the sizes I need.

Roby 394: Pirellis... which model? Do you have experience with the re11?

The RE11a and the prior yokohama and kumho that I liked had a lot more rubber and fewer wider grooves for rain.

I sort of want to avoid getting the wrong tires. I think I originally got the RE11 because greg fordahl told me I'd love them.

I have a set of used 205/245 RE11s if you are interested. 245s fit fine on 8" wheels.

I have Toyo R888. They're like butter.

I like the grip of the Toyos (R888R). But they are loud. It's like driving a pick-up with lugged off-road tires. OK, maybe not that bad. But still loud enough that I can hear the tires hum when I'm on the highway.

I just mounted some Pirelli P Zero Rosso on all four since my TR1's aged out.
No chance for anything other than highway so far - no complaints.

In the past my favorites were Toyo RA1's for street and DE with a g body, but so far sticking with street tires on the 930...

Not a lot of choices out there. I wanted to get Yokohama Advan AD08R's but had no luck finding for all four wheels at the time ...

Tire Rack only gives one choice for the size I need. I may need to do more research to find out if there is another source. I was thinking about Pirelli or Continental Extreme.

TOYO PROXES R1R
Front: 235/40ZR17 Rear: 275/40ZR17

If I go up a size in the front to 245/40ZR17 I have several choices.
Can I go this far on a 7" wheel?
Is it worth the gamble?

Sorry, but 7" is just too narrow for a 245 width tire*.

*Disclaimer: Of course, there could be some obscure tire that might fit.

245mm = 9.6" not a good fit for 7" wide rim, You will end up with a a motorcycle tire look. That is not a gamble, more a sure thing in the wrong direction.

I have also been running the Yokohama A052 since they discontinued the RE-11, They wear pretty quickly and in my opinion seem to need an additional 2 PSI per tire to give the same feel as my Bridgestones.

Has anyone tried the Yokohama A-008P? They make them in 245/45 16 and 205/55 16.
240 AA rated.

Just donned a set of A008p in factory sizing for the 930, and so far so good.

The car is new to me so I can't comment much on before/after steering feel, etc, but they're plenty sticky, communicative, and progressive in spirited street driving. I'm interested to see how they hold up with a bit of heat in them on a track/AutoX course.

Experience is mostly autocross (not in a 930 yet...) and street driving.

What I really liked about the RE11 was sharp handling and excellent rain traction. I drive the car in the rain and previous tires were sometimes pretty flighty.

I'm thinking now to go for the kumho v730. Says its not good in the rain but I guess I'll be careful. Anyone tried the v730? Price is ok.

I can find tires that look perfect to my eyes, like the kumho PS91, but its not made in anything close to the right size.

I remember snorting because the 15" crowd was having trouble finding tires. Well now its on me too. BS!

In those sizes you still have a lot of choices.

225/50/16

205/55/16

The Dunlop Direzza is an excellent high performance tire. Lots of grip in wet and dry.

I guess the right approach was to walk around all sullen and kick my shoe in the dirt.

Appears bridgestone has just listed the re71rs in my sizes. Not in local store's systems yet but thats what I'm going to get.

The 205/225 by 15 combo looks super tasty on the RE71s. They don't make a 245/45/16 which is surprising given all the other Porsche sizes.

I just installed a set of the 300TW Bridgestone Potenza Sports to replace my dated RE11’s. They have a much more progressive feel (softer sidewall) which makes the car feel less “darty” than it did with the 11’s. Ride quality is definitely improved. Traction feels excellent. Going to play around with pressure settings. Still have a set of A052’s on backorder.

After a few more drives the Potenza Sport seem to like a little more pressure (36F 38R) and are almost indiscernible from the previous RE-11.
