1975 Turbo 3.0 chassis 9305700109 ended up selling last week for €381,800 (including commission) or approx $399k USD.

Seeing this always takes a bit of the sting off a restoration project when you start tallying up the bills.

Can't wait to see Jeff's 930 when it is done!
I must admit that I had my eye on that auction and was glad to see the outcome! I have no expectation to make money on this project, and I'm learning so much along the way. I hope I fall in love with the car and keep it forever.

Danny has finished the body and paint, and the car has been handed off to Bernie to begin the long reassembly process. Thankfully, he has been making parallel progress on the mechanical restoration.

I visited the car recently, and the paint looks incredible in person. So much depth with the Ice Green Metallic. It looks much nicer than I've been able to capture in the videos and photos so far.

I also checked out some recent progress on the engine and various bits and pieces, like the now-restored heater control box.

Bernie is putting the wiring harness in, getting it to rolling stage and then it will be over to Matt for interior work. Fingers crossed that it is fast progress and no big surprises from here on out.

Brilliant work on this. Shouldn't the sections under the wheel arch be body coloured?

Thankfully I have Ryan's book (https://parabolicapress.com/products/porsche-turbo-3-0-book?variant=33250192076) and his expertise to piece together how the original factory paint process worked on these early Turbos.

On later US Turbos with higher ride height, or on cars with the low profile tire option, the factory would paint black on the inside of the fenders to reduce the visibility of wheel/fender gap. Porsche didn’t bother masking and just sprayed it on with overspray and drips common. Since my car has the low profile tire option, black it is!

Black paint was strategically used inside the car, the dash, the tunnel, seat mounts and other areas where carpet seams could expose primer/body color.

The inside of the smugglers box was always painted black.

Black paint was applied on the outside door edge to fool the eye into thinking any poorly fitting door trim was even.

The engine compartment was always painted body color, not black like they did on earlier cars.

The interior of the car did not get a full spray of body color, just primer. Porsche didn’t bother masking off the interior when the exterior was painted, leaving the inside with a lot of overspray of body color.

We stayed as true to the original process as we could.

A photo from Ryan's book on the subject (Ryan, let me know if you want me to remove this photo):

Most photos are posted in this growing thread, and I also maintain a restoration blog for the car - http://www.chassis106.com.

That is the greatest color, looks even better in real life. I really like the plaid seat inserts, what I will put in the 914

Thanks for this insight. I did not know this. When I was painting mine the shop wanted to go black and I wanted body colour so they did 1 of each for me to judge. I went with body colour, which should be right for my ROW with normal tires I guess.

Pretty sure the consensus is, at least for early 930s, that all had black sprayed in the wheel wells. There is a long discussion on Ferrari Chat about this, from about 15 years ago. Note, that SCs did not get this treatment, just 930s.

It was very exciting to partner with my local Porsche Club of America chapter, PNWR, and share part 1 of this restoration journey, from discovery to finishing body and paint. The Spiel is the best local PCA magazine in the country, and it was exciting to get this edition in the mail!

I’d love a copy of the magazine.

Maybe you mentioned it previously but what paint did you use? I find PPG or RM or Glasurit or whoever never match. I did a car in Minerva blue and the PPG was way too gray. I’ve seen different ice green metallics as well. I would imagine Glasurit is the most correct

Danny used Glasurit and I think it looks amazing. I can only compare it to a few cars, one of which has also been repainted and one with original but obviously very old paint. I'm not an expert, but it looks right to my eye.

Another trip to Bernie, and a lot of fantastic progress. Bernie is not only a mechanical wizard, but he seems to specialize in finding date-correct, no longer on sale, and hard-to-find parts. He sourced the correct turn signal for my 75, and all the original parts needed for the water pump and heating system. Brakes and suspension work is done. Fuel lines are run. Electrical is coming along nicely, and the car should be ready for interior work by the end of the month.

Note - the wheel/tire in the first photo isn't mine...just something he threw up there temporarily.

I was hoping the car would be on the road in 2025, but it's looking more like summer of 2026 at this point. Making good progress, but this isn't a project I'm rushing or cutting any corners!

Some photos of recent progress:

Some impressive progress, always a treasure hunt to find period or date specific components and then refinish them to look original. How did he do the turn signal selector, is that an original piece rebuilt to get the high beams to work correctly, or did he disassembly a newer replacement Valeo style unit and utilize the original selector arm to have the period correct right and left green indicator arrows on the arm. The newer replacement Valeo components do not have that mid to late 1970s detail.

Great to see your progress!

Bernie found a NOS period correct turn signal switch/stalk but I don't think he has done any modification to it. I believe it is just an original part. Please share more about the modification you mentioned.

This was the incorrect part that was in my car for some reason:
