Porsche 911/930

Just had the SECOND failure of my water pump on my 991.2 GTS inside a MONTH. Googling seems to show that there is a serious problem with these items, revisions to the part haven’t solved it as some 992’s have had it. Not sure why I’m posting here really as there’s nothing you can do to avoid it but just a rant really. I’m so raged at such shoddy quality it makes me want to sell it - why suffer such crap reliability? If it had let me down like this whilst I was over in Europe thousands of miles away from home with my family alongside as I was twice this year I would be totally stuffed. So, beware that you could be stranded roadside at any time without warning with a problem that usually only happens with old knackered shopping cars. Brilliant.

I think you will have better luck over on rennlist.com. Pelican is a great resource but focused more on the older cars.

Good luck!

Problem solved.

So what is failing, bearing failure or seal?

Wouldnt have that problem with an air-cooled. You'd have a bunch of other problems instead.

I did a quick search it looks like Porsche used a Glass loaded nylon pipe bolted to the pump and using a o ring to seal. I really wish auto manufacturers would stop using nylon crap everywhere or at least understand the expansion problems better. Nylon is about as stable as wood and water goes through it at about the same rate. Is this what failed on your car?

thanks chum. It’s on the Porsche extended warranty but it’s the unreliability that bothers me so, I never had any problems with Ferrari or Aston, only bloody Porsche

Perhaps an improper installation/fix? No manufacturer is without issues, but Porsche shares the top tier of the customer satisfaction food chain so most consumers are happy with their product. As noted Rennlist will likely flush out a few owners with a similar problem if it's a weak point.

Fortunately for you it's under warranty.
