87 /930 sport seats question

I have an 87/ 930 with standard (marine blue) 8 way-power seats. Would anyone know if new 930 sport seat foam and new sport seat cover works on the original standard seat frame’s?

The sport seats internal frame is different. The metal frame sticks out further to support the larger bolsters.

Short answer is "kinda".

Pretty sure it's more work to convert comfort seats to sports than it would be to rebuild some sports seats. And, if DIYing it, you'd probably need some sports seats to get measurements from in any case, so might as well just use them. There are companies that will do it as a service, I believe.

See, sport seat lowers are 3 entirely separate bolsters that you sit in, not a single piece cushion that you sit on, like comfort seats.

As a result, the seat frame(s) are completely different between the two - the frames in these pictures are 2nd gen (1981-1984), but show what I mean - see the support frame on the lower platform for the side bolsters? The frames on the upper side bolsters are similarly built up to provide support for the foam (otherwise it wouldn't last 6 months, let alone 30-40 years):

from this thread Second Gen Sport Seat frame question

It's often hard to gauge from pictures just how much more support is provided by the deeper lower bolsters on Sport seats and the (much) wider side bolsters.

This picture shows the deeper bolsters better than most:

From this thread Sourcing 81-84 Manual Sport Seat Foam

There are 3 generations of Sport seats for air-cooled 911s ;

Motors in the powered seats weigh quite a lot. Early seats are reputed to be heavier than the 81-84 ones.

It can be done but not simple nor cheap.

When Paul Champagne was still in business, I was going to get him to convert my seats to Sport Seats and sadly never got around to it.

Thanks so much for your responses, especially your pictures and measurements. I was not planning to attempt the revision as a DIY project. I was planning to use Classic -9 Leather Shop. I've seen their work at a recent Reinnsport rally that I attended.
