Looking to pick up a 79 next week

It has 50K miles....been sitting since 94. Obviously, new battery, change all the fluids and purge the brake lines...anything else?

Joe Bob 12-29-2006 06:57 PM

conversion....

914/6s were not made in 73....70-71 for US and some in europe in 72....

You will need new tyres to be safe.

You may be in for F&R wheel bearings, calipers, maybe a fuel head/injectors and possilby a turbo. Hopefully no mice damage. But even if they all went, you are way ahead based on a $15k purchase price.

David 12-30-2006 12:48 PM

I wouldn't mess with the wheel bearings or turbo until they fail. A used turbo should be easy to come by unless you get bit by the hp bug and find yourself springing for something bigger and/or newer tech.

Does the car run? If not you may need to rebuild the fuel head. Or just send it off to IA for the mod.

Joe Bob 12-30-2006 12:50 PM

What mod and who's IA? Imagine Auto?

The muffler is off, and the intake cover. SO it needs some re-assembly.

NathanUK 12-30-2006 02:29 PM

Yes, Imagine Auto.
The fuel head mod has your heads passages cnc'd bigger to allow more fuel to flow through it. The pipes and injectors are not limiting fuel, only the fuel head. When you go over 400bhp the fuel pressure can drop causing a lean condition due to the fuel head.
Euro heads are supposed to flow more than a US head, but once they are both modified the US one flows more.
I have a modded US head :)
