ign timing adjustment
Hey guys, just want to make sure I am doing this right, since this is a critical adjustment for the turbo. I have a stock 87 930 timing seems a bit off. with a warm engine I checked it at 4000 rpm on the timing light, I have heard the guage in the car is not as accurate. I disconnected and plugged with golf tees both distributer vacuum lines. Left one is advance and right is retard. I assume I am looking at the 26 deg timing mark and it appears to be slightly retarded from the index. Am I checking this correctly? Also from my reading for adjusting basic spec you need to go timing, CO, then idle, correct? Sorry guys I don't have any kind of shop manual for this car, did everyone here buy the expensive shop manual from Porsche, or is there another alternative? Thank you, any help is appreciated.

From the book for a 1978 and on the timing specs are:
10 deg +/- 2 deg ATDC at 1000 +/- 50 RPM with the hose connected. 26 deg +/- 4 deg BTDC at 4000 RPM with the hose disconnected. This isn't where mine ended up being. Because with these numbers it ran like CRAP! I set it to where it runs the best. I wonder if somewhere along the line my dist was removed and installed one tooth off or maybe I have some other issue I need to sort out to get those numbers, I don't know. BTW: I used the tach on the dash to set at 4000RPM. Sometimes you can pick up a manual on Ebay. That's where I got mine. Good Luck!
