Anyone here mounted their air filter in the wheel well, as opposed to inside the engine bay?
If so, please share pics!

Hey Merv,
I've got mine mounted in the top of the wheel well with a home made splash box around it (no pics, I'll see if I can find any). I've had no problems with it over the last 5 months or so.

Princeton's car is a beast, but I'm not sure if I like the location of those filters! What if the tyre kicks up a rock or something and it gets sucked into the compressor
Could cause some serious damage

Looks good Phil... thanks for the pic. Is that filter hanging there off a silicone elbow of some sort?

Phill, do you use K&N oil on that filter, and how long does it stay clean?
We seem to have quite a bit of really fine silt or dust on the roads here and I'm concerned if I move my filter it's going to be clogged pretty quick. Last fall I was working on the car and dripped some oil on the bumper. After a trip to grab a coffee and resume working on the car there seem to be lots of abrasive grit and dust stuck in the oil. I guess I could pick up a K&N and see how long it stays clean. |

The filter is not a K&N, So I don't use any oil on it, I do check it quite often though and the particulate build up does not seem any worse than when the filter was in the engine compartment.

has anyone mounted a thermometer to see what kind of temps are there compared to in the engine bay.i guess when your moving it would be cool air with the filter in the wheel well

That location would probably be the best for cold air intake. It's low and it picks up lots of cold airflow. Nothing really around that spot that would induce heat soak. I might give it a try myself, just to clean up the engine bay a little.
