Turbo Oil Return
Where does the 930 oil return to from the turbo? I assume it goes through the (gear drive?) return pump and (where exactly) back to the oil system.
I picked up an electric oil pump, as I think I had a bit of oil return problem at the track. I currently gravity drain to the left chain cover. Thanks! Pat

As you stated, the return oil goes from the turbo sump tank to the cam driven pump and then to the side of the oil tank.

Thanks Brian
I figured the tank would be a good place to return the oil to. I'll have to route the line up to the neck, as I don't think I have that bung on the stock SC tank. Pat

Ben, what do you mean by "using the sump as the scavange pump"? Are you saying that you are draining oil to the engine sump? i thought you were draining into the chain cover.
Thanks,

I was but changed to the sump plate as it is a natural scavange.. The 3.2 guys just go into the drain plug.. works well

That is what the 500hp moster does too. For almost 2 years now.

Pat, are you having oil return issues at the track with your existing drain solution to the left chain cover? Maybe you need to raise your turbo a bit higher? Use a couple extra flanges to lift it up a bit perhaps

Yeah, Merv
I think for street use it would be OK, but the track is a bit harsh. I fear the sump drain may induce vortexing at the oil pickup, so I wondered how the 930's did it. I have to think it over some more. I can't get any more elevation on the turbo than I now have. Pat

Pat, alternatively, you can gravity drain it to the lowest point in the left lower valve cover.
The issue I see with electric pumps is that they eventually will burn out and fail Gravity draining is a more permanent solution.

This gravity drain solution seems too simple. I thought that the drain needed the shortest run possible for proper flow. Don't get me wrong, I am really excited to not have to worry with the chain cover.
I think I would feel better about using the valve cover. I feel like the drain plug is too exposed; it would be the lowest thing on the engine and could catch on something and break off. Am I being too anal?

Ben,
What about your sump...what are the chances that you'll hit something and knock off the drain line? I think there's plenty of room, but, what do you think?

Nah, I think ur being too anal
![]() I drain to the sump drain plug and drive over speed humps, driveways etc... all the time. I don't go driving in the bush, so I think I'll be safe
