Man Guns,
I still have a full set of 79 935 bodywork. I thought maybe too radical for the street. But now maybe I might have to plane a redo????? And you blame us for for being a bad influence! ;)

Reaper930 05-13-2008 08:35 PM

Go for it! :) And of course the board is the bad influence...originally I just wanted to get a different bumper!

Reaper930,

That is a great 'double-black-diamond' quote. :D
Keep up the good work.

Best,
Grady

Rory Mckenna 05-15-2008 08:00 PM

That was GREAT!.. I had forgotten about that movie...

RarlyL8 05-15-2008 08:52 PM

God that was funny! Thanks for sharing.
Did you notice the good guy's voice sounded like Wally Cleaver?

juicersr 05-16-2008 06:15 AM

Bwahhhhh! LOL!!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif
Reaper, are you both a 'superb driver and dedicated killer?' Comon bro, fess up... you really are retired 'Prostonovich' trying to relive your glory days;) Begs the question of which Pelicanites are gonna be your wingmen? You gonna install 4wd in case you meet up with any goobers in a stretch Bricklin with machine guns and flamethrowers?
For a low budget flick, they sure trashed some expensive machinery.

sand_man 05-16-2008 06:37 AM

BTW Reaper, the car looks insane!!! I love it!

Looks like flat black is the latest 'it' color. The latest gemballa CGT iteration/monstrosity. Don't really understand why they have to f*** so much with such a naturally beautiful design. Is the gaudy taste of all the new $120+ a barrel oil gazzillionaires what is driving this market?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211034323.jpg

craigerz 05-17-2008 02:06 PM

what the....

What a way to ruin such a beautiful car.... SOOOOOOOOOO SAD!!!!!

Noah Holcomb 05-20-2008 10:39 AM

Paint

What brand of primer and paint did you use? If you have the catalog # that would be great. It might be time to paint my spare kart satin black. Is it just a lacquer paint? Also what spray gun did you use?

Reaper930 05-21-2008 02:47 AM

Paint is PPG black, the clear coat mixed in at 20% ratio is called "Flexed n' Flat" also made by PPG. Don't have a catalog number sorry, the shop in Van Nuys handled all that stuff. PM me if you want the shops info to give them a call.

RarlyL8 05-21-2008 10:59 AM

How do you maintain that paint? Can you wash and wax it? If not do you just let it oxidize and ware off the car?
I don't think it would look bad waxed. It needs a little sheen which adds to the mistique and stealth.

spence88mph 05-21-2008 04:01 PM

My Aprilia has large sections of that matt/satin paint on it's factory bodywork, you have to wash with very mild detergent to get rid of the finger prints, chamois then wait til it completely dries it self then dont touch! It shows finger prints really badly as the oil from your fingers make shiny spots, the slightest scratch, scuff anything, also shows up bit time. It's a PITA but worth it when it's all clean, looks awesome on this car!

Reaper930 05-22-2008 12:53 AM

Brian,

Word from the shop is to lightly wax and use a cleaner before every wax application to prevent build up. Also light detergent bath and I need to have the water do the scrubbing. The darker sheen that the body has can be maintained without going too shiny by the wax remover/body cleaner.

RarlyL8 05-22-2008 06:02 AM

How do you "lightly wax"?
Does that mean use a wax/cleaner combo and avoid hard waxes like carnuba?

Reaper930 05-22-2008 08:53 PM

Correct, the wax to be used has to be a spray wax with low carnuba content as to not leave a layer to glaze on the paint by rubbing etc. It should be much easier to maintain then the paint on Spence's Aprilla due to the fact it has a clear coat mixed in which will aid in the paint not absorbing the fingerprints so easily.

9dreizig 05-26-2008 09:51 AM

Reaper, I love the car!! Just curious about the carbon interior,, where and how much for those door panels ??

Cookie Porsche 05-26-2008 12:13 PM

Reaper,

Love the colour. Have attached a picture of my black 935 replica. Your car is really going to be something special.

Only note (but it sounds as if you've made a plan). I agree with Van, you must fit a 935 wing!

Otherwise I might copy your colour! :D

Reaper930 05-27-2008 09:25 PM

Okay, the pics are going up because you guys deserve them for waiting so patiently...however the car is dirty and it makes it look fairly bad.

I REALLY need to get those wheels on the car to get that souped up VW look to go away...man this looks like an ebay special!

The 911R tail lights have not been painted yet thus they mismatch the color - more to come as she comes together and gets back over to the mechanics shop. Once the windows get back in tinted she can get a bath.

And yes I realize I do need a 935 tail badly...but with the motor & intercooler it gives us room for now, so when everything else is finalized it will get a 935 tail as well.

Dutchie 05-28-2008 01:48 PM

jsveb 05-29-2008 12:09 AM

Thx for the info Dutchie. So far I have decieded to go "Reaper style" on the color and the tail lights. I am on Kind of a different budget though :)
Jesper

Dutchie 05-29-2008 01:59 AM

all you need is six spraycans, sandpaper and some beers to do the "budget" version :D

Reaper930 05-29-2008 05:17 AM

I would strongly suggest if you're going to do the satin look, get something that will aid in helping to preserve the paint etc.

PPG Black with Flexed n' Flat clear coat mixed in, its pretty cheap if you do the body prep etc. You can research online but do a rough 20% mix and you'll be good to go.

jsveb 05-29-2008 07:59 AM

Thank you both for your replies. I will PM (if that's OK)you both once I get a little further in my own project. Reaper thank you and sorry for the interuption in your thread.
Once again : What an awesome project.
Jesper

9dreizing: GT Racing has the carbon panels that are of decent quality, from what I hear you'll have to do some dressing up of the edges as they leave something to be desired. I decided to go with leather RS panels as the carbon fiber was too, how do I say...blingy in constrast to the satin paint and blacked out look. SmileWavy

JSVEB: Contact me as much as you would like, i'm always excited to help a fellow enthusiast, especially when they're going to the darkside.

Dutchie: That's one sexy a$$! You're car is the reason I went with the R tail lights, they just look SO right when it comes to satin paint.

Cookie: MORE PICS PLEASE!!!! Wonderful clone of the 935, I wanted to initally go this route but figured it would be impractical for a daily driver...but my God that thing is stunningly beautiful!

Reaper930 06-03-2008 02:58 AM

We decided to go without mirrors and just use a rear view camera, the holes in the doors will be welded up and repainted in the near future.

Car covers were never meant to be used on such madness...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212486473.jpg

And here she is cleaned up a little...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212486568.jpg

The color varies from what angle you're looking at it at...the tail lights came out lighter than the rest so they're getting repainted currently. Also the fenders front and rear are getting undercoating to help protect the fiberglass and to give it a new black color underneath.

Tail...doesn't look so bad painted huh? As I stated previously i'll end up with a 935 tail also, but due to the current intercooler this one is mandatory until I have another one fabbed up. Again, the tail lights are getting repainted along with the reflector replacement section.

Alcantara headliner is at the shop, they finished the sunroof this weekend, and i'll have more shots up when they finish installing along with the carpet etc. Robert Budd of the 928 Leather Shop did the headliner, door sills and rear quarter window trim in Alcantara.

Gabriel i noticed the rubber around the R lights i think that is the stock rubber used with the normal lenses. If you leave it out they will mount flush with the bodywork and look much better i think. I agree on the tail looks great !

Cheers,

Ed

Dutchie: I think they did leave the rubber out, however they don't seem to fill the space totally...do you have any close ups of your so I can compare fitment?
