My Euro Adventure With My 87 930

Hello all,
I am starting a new thread with the details of my trip thru Germany.

As I have said in past threads I found this car in Germany last year. It had one owner & 66K on the clock or about 42,000 miles. The car had always been garaged & never driven in winter. As the photos show its a gem. HOWEVER, the car had sat in storage & last been on the road in 1999. I am not a big fan of garage queen cars & what I will share with you reinforces that notion. Before my trip over I had my German contacts replace the tires, brake pads, brake fluid, oil, fuel, misc. fuel lines & other bits that corrode due to lack of use. I got there did, had the paperwork in order for ins. & registering it for 2 weeks & off I went keys in hand & grin on face. As I started my first drive for shakedown purposes it became clear the car was not making boost. (I am a mechanic) All else seemed in order. Drove car to mechanic that had done above work & car went on lift. diagnosis, turbo is spinning but sticky & notchy.... Fortunately, sourcing a KKK turbo unit is as easy as ordering a liter of beer in Germany. Thanks & kudos to Wagner Motorsport in Kolbermoor, Germany.
Wagner Motorsport; KFZ-Meisterbetrieb; 83059 Kolbermoor
They have a great setup down there & tune/race Porsche & BMW. Got some great pics of M1 BMW race cars they run.
So in went the turbo BTW 700 Euros for the part off I went. All is well & the unit is making boost, life is great until.... I go to garage the car at night & it cranks but fails to start. Its Friday & no garage is open in Germany so I head to the PC & dig thru the Forum here to begin my diagnostics that Sat. morning. Its clear in half an hour the damn bloody overboost relay has failed. Monday over to Porsche Wurzburg where for a mere 172 Euros they hand me one. OUCH!! In it goes all is well, I drive some special roads see pics. Then suddenly the car starts shedding oil, by shedding I mean blue smoke road covering incontinence!!! WTF!! Diagnosis, engine mounted oil cooler. Back to the shop. Turns out the oil cooler is currently unavailable. My game has suddenly been shut down. The mechanic Rainer Hoffmann of Hoffmann Autoservice in Gerolzhofen is a master mechanic. Many thanks to him for putting aside all his other service to become my personal mechanic for the duration of my trip. As it turns out the oil cooler is good, he pressure tested the unit & now it seems the seals are the culprit.
I am back Stateside & the car is still in Germany on the lift waiting for parts. I will end up heading back soon or in the Spring weather depending. When the car is repaired my uncle will be driving the car for a week or two to make sure it is sorted out. The moral of the story is DRIVE THE CAR!! Letting a car sit & age is a horrible fate for things mechanical. I am certain all you guys know this but its worth saying.
The trip was still not a total loss but my plans for the Nordschleife & Spa in Belgium did not happen. I have been to both in the past & will be there again but it would have been nice to do it this time. FYI I got a great hookup at the Ring if anyone needs it. They do trackdays on closed days, none of that Touristen Fahr crap.
So, I am open to any Q or RFI from any Forum ppl.
Cheers & Prosit, Alex
Photo summary, A pretty 200 mile road trip thru South Germany you can do on your own. My car has all red relays. Not sure if that is stock or was done by owner. Various pics of me & the 930

Some misc photos of me. All the posts saying to hit the Ring... That's my Tat.. Been there doing that. With my bike & cars. I used to be a club racer in C.C.S. & had some respectable results including a 2nd in the 05 Daytona Supersport race. Of course that was when I was skinny & young. LOL Its great being on the Forum & sharing stories. Hope to learn alot from you all about the 930. Peace be well. Any Q dont hesitate to ask...
