tires for 11" rears?
I'll preface this post with the fact that I tried a search and didn't find the info I needed.
I just purchased a set of CCW 3 piece wheels from a fellow Pelican. I'm looking for a set of 315/35/17 tires for the rear. The fronts are 9.5" and I'll be running a 255/40/17. I'd like some recommendations for tires. I have always run Toyo RA-1's on my Carrera and loved them. I currently run Toyo R888's on my 944S2 which is strictly a track car. Unfortunately neither of these tires come in the size I need. I'd like a tire with similar characteristics as the RA-1's. I heard BFG discontinued the KD's. Thanks in advance. |

Even if they were discontinued, there should still be some BFG KD's around, so I'd call around (and quick.) I bought some a few months ago.
For street tires, the next choice would be Goodyear F1's and then Dunlop. I thought Yokohama made them but I couldn't find any. For track tires, Hoosier, then Kumho.

I just bought a set of the CCW wheels from John at CCW and he had them delivered with the Michelin Pilot Sport II 315's all mounted and balanced. You might try giving him a call and see if he's got access to a set or two.

Bryan: read the signature block....my 99 996 caught fire while I was driving it ....pulled over to the side of the road and watched it burn. ChP showed up and hit it with chemical extinguisher which did nothing more than make it a God awful mess in there. Bought it back from insurance and sold it to Mfletch...he's one of those masochists you read about who likes to hurt himself.....God that's an awful project he's undertaken.
At any rate, AAA came thru with a better settlement than I could have come up with thru a private sale so I grabbed the money and jumped into a 996TT X50 with only 19K on the clock. Damn if this car isn't so much more luxurious and fast. I put a set of Europipe in it and will flash it after the CPO runs out next year. The CCW wheels were a bit of extravaganza I couldn't pass up...but I love the look and they're a lot lighter....but the rears are wide little buggers. Most of my friends had ridden in the 996...but when I took them for a quick ride in the TT, thee were some white knuckles and sharp inhales of breath when the turbos kicked in. Love the car so far. Gas mileage is lousy, but it's in direct correlation to how much I push it down.

I'm guessing these are 18" not 17".

Consider the Goodyear GS D3 F1. I've had them for a couple of years and really like them. I think they also come in 315 35 17s. Look at tirerack.com.
