Im practically new to turbos, but willing to start on the dark side, i got this car a 1975 911S from a so called "wolf motorsports"...
The engine pulls strong, but the first gear on tranny died yesterday.. I checked oil for the tranny and came out with scrap...meaning tranny is about to die... I know that 915 may not be the best or even proper one to run with a 930 engine, but this is the way the car came.. The car starts really slow and poorly on first, but as the turbo and engine start to pull 2nd, 3rd, 4th,and 5th, feel good... I guess i must drop engine and tranny to take a look at the first gear, need assistance...any one? ![]()

Oil with scrap..
Yeah it seems like 1St Gear is stripped...not shure..
Just as i checked oil, it came out with scrap metal... 1st Gear engages well, but car barely moves.. So i guess it is gone... Any thoughts?

use the search button... and throw that 915 away or to someone who has a N/A 911 or 914... get a 930 4 speed or g-50... dont waste your money on rebuilding your 915...unless you like rebuilding transmissions every few years... spend the money, do it right the first time,...and never look back

You might of only ripped off the dog teeth, no biggy if you are able to change them yourself.

It is a 82 915 tranny, aluminum, not magnesium...
By the way happy ending, the problem was the shift coupler, i read the thread about adjusting the shift coupler, and it worked great.. Now shifting smoothly, but now i know i must be careful with 1st gear, it could go away easily if fun goes out of order... Damn... im a turboholic!!!... Thank you all... Mick..

Sweet!
Actually, I've been told that 3rd is the weakest gear in a 915. Hayden (WEVO) says it's too much torque at low RPM that breaks 915's, IIRC. His rule-of-thumb is 350 ft/lbs and 5,000 RPM. I've got a 915 and never stand on it in 1st, because I did that once or twice and it was just scary. It's far too low to be doing that. Conditions permitting, I rev in N/A mode (no boost) to about 3-4000 and then get into 2nd, roll the power on until 3,000 or slightly more and then stand on it until redline. The higher gears, you're already spinning pretty good, so just shift and stand on it again until sanity (or fear) prevails. Cars in the rear-view which aren't dots at this point are going pretty darn fast. With a better turbo, you gain the ability to treat the throttle less like a light-switch - because it'll start to spool sooner, and you don't need to stuff in full throttle to get boost.

First and second syncromesh get a hard time, but that's nothing to do with torque.
