I know this may sound slightly rediculous, but my mechanic had a Lamborghini Diablo ('92) in his shop lately. He claims my 930 would "eat" the Lambo. I know the top speed ratings do not confirm this however he talks acceleration. We went for a ride and the Lambo is very quick but my 930 also has :
K-27 , SC cams, B+B headers w/ Powerhaus muffler, 0.8 bar, and Garretson intercooler. Any ideas as we did not go head to head, but boy is the Lambo a "HOT" looking machine. Thanks Jerry S

Up until the Countach of '85 the 930 was the fastest road going vehicle around. With a few mods I would agree you'd smoke the Diabalos

The 911 turbo lineage has always been the fastest accelerating car.
The aerodynamics are not so great over 170, obviously, and the 911 turbo cars have never had the crazy top speed of other exotics, but in acceleration 911 turbo has always beaten its rivals since 1976. |

If I were you guys, I wouldn't be quite so sure. I have a couple 930s, one of which is modified in a similar fashion to Jerry's. I haven't run my car against a Lambo but I have run it with a '92 turbo. They were essentially equal to 130mph or so, at which point we backed off.
A '92 turbo will do a standing start kilometer in a little over 24 seconds. An early Diablo will do it in under 21. Even a '94 turbo can't crack 22 seconds. As for a shorter race...I'd still bet on the Lambo, as a 930 isn't geared for quick acceleration. JR |

If so its still impressive for a car that you can pick up in the 20- to 35k price range compared to a used Lambo!

The 930 in question isn't stock.
A modded 930 can kick ass on just about anything. A 400RWHP CIS car can hang with an '08 ZO6 if that puts it in perspective.

Perhaps you need to re-read what I said. Mine isn't stock either and has essentially the same things modified that Jerry's car has.
I know that a 930 can be made to accelerate faster. I was pointing out a relative comparison that seemed to me to indicate that Jerry's 930 wouldn't be quicker than a Diablo. I know where I'd put my money. This implies no disrespect to the 930, as can be seen from my decision to purchase 2 930s and 0 Diablos. JR |

I read it and understand it.
Similar is similar is not identical. It's bench racing. I'll take the 930 all day long. If your modded car didn't take the (assumed) stock '92 something is wrong with your car.

It has the aerodynamic qualities of a brick. That, and a stock four-speed. Porsche did make a few improvements in the later turbos, you know. It actually runs quite well. Much faster than stock, or my bone stock euro car. Anyway, this is all bench racing isn't it? Don't we love arguing on the internet... JR |

That V-12 engine is great however my mechanic pointed out that the Lambo weighed in over 4100 lbs soaking wet which is a 50 % weight disadvantage.

I guess the question is does a Diablo do a standing kilometer in less than 21 seconds? Unfortunately, my 94 is not stock so it is not a good comparison. I will say that even a C5 Z06 with some mods is a loosing battle unless you have the opportunity for a rolling start. If you can get rid of the turbos 0-5, 0-10 mph portion of the equation not much keeps up with it. If you have to do a standing start you can loose upwards of 2 seconds launching these cars from 0-20 and that hurts. Yes I could rev the engine and drop the clutch but I would rather loose than destroy my car and drag racers they are not. Although with rolling starts I have no problem leaving C5 Z06's and vipers behind with no chance of catching up. I have never had a run against a Diablo although I know a few past owners that said they were not as fast as they claim to be and that is why they no longer own them. So from a standing start I agree I would bet on the diablo once launched my bet is on the turbo

- Those things hold 24 qts of oil.. - two oil filters - 12 plugs and wires (ok some of us here have that too) - two air filters - valve adjustment requires shims and the hours add while doing that! Hey, but I'm with Slow&Rusty... which set of organs did you say you needed for that!? P-

![]() They may look good now but look at a Countach today they look so dated vs our turbos which will be classics forever.
