Rear Decklid....Quick Question
Figured I would ask this here as those with a turbo would have the answer.
I have acquired a right side (passenger side) deck lid hinge supposedly from a turbo car so I can mount a second deck lid strut to my 85 911 with a whale tail. Only problem is this.........It was sent to me so I am not sure it is correct. This hinge has a triangle shaped plate that is spot riveted to it. On my left side hinge there is sort of a raised pad that the strut goes in between just like on the firewall. On this right side one, there is just a welded nut on the one side that appears to be where the strut attaches. Is this the right part? Anyone that can snap a quick photo of the way their strut is mounted? The firewall mount on the car is the same on both sides so I would think the deck hinges should be too, no?

Yes, that looks exactly like my passenger side hinge on my turbo.

I just popped into my garage and took this for you. If it is not the angle you need just let me know and I will shoot from a different angle. Any excuse for me to not have to work on my engine

Now there is another question though. In the post below yours, the strut end is mounted on the other side of the plate. Which is correct? I would imagine that the bolt has a smooth (unthreaded) portion where it contacts the eyelet of the strut, no? (so it can pivot smoothly)

Mine is on the wrong side because the hinge is bent. The one you quoted is correct. The head of the bolt should be inboard.

Scuffed and sanded it up, primed, painted last night. Got it mounted up today. Works perfectly.

So your Carrera is not a sport? Yet it still has the bracket on the firewall to mount the strut?

Package would include what? This car has ZERO options When you look at the underhood tag, it lists the only option as CO2 (cat)

My '89 Carrera 3.2 had the bracket on the firewall. I had to fab the right side hinge bracket when I added a Carrera tail, but the firewall bracket was there.

All the deck and hood shocks use a pin with a groove and that fiddly little clip that ends up jumping somewhere in the engine bay at least once, surely?

Mine has a threaded nut attached to the outboard side. The driver side has the pin and clip.

The driver side hinge uses a bolt on the hinge side mount. There is a threaded nut to accept it. Since I originally posted this thread, I found out even more info. I was informed by a very experienced and certified Porsche tech and well known rally car builder that the plate was/is used on the right side hinge due to the fact that if they used a mount like the left side, it would strike the 930 airbox. And in looking at the setup, it makes perfect sense.

My 3.2 carrera has pins and clips, that car is very very original. As for my 930 there is no point me even looking
